    Hi,
What sort of brush should you use on dogs with thick undercoats, e.g. huskies? There’s a lot of publicity about brushes such as the Furminator, but does it brush or cut the undercoat, and is it any better or worse (or no different) from using a combination of slicker brush and mat comb?

    1. Meg Marrs Avatar

Hi Cecilia – the Furmintator does indeed cut the undercoat, so not ideal. Nothing wrong with a slicker brush and mat comb, I think some people simply prefer the convenience and ease of the Furmintator, even though it does cut fur.

My dog’s hair is driving me absolutely crazy! It is shedding everywhere and it looks horrible. Thank you for sharing that matting of the hair is usually caused during shedding seasons. I didn’t know about that, and also thank you for sharing how this is happening. Along with keeping my dog out of the dirt and grass, I need to find a good place that can groom my dog. My dog deserves to look cute, because that is all she is. She is a ball of cuteness that should look cute as well.

It can definitely be frustrating Lilia! The good news is that groomers will also be able to help provide tips specific to your dog’s coat, so definitely consider seeing one for the inside scoop!
