When visiting a bar with your dog:
- Don’t get wasted. Your dog is your responsibility at all times. Don’t risk his safety by downing one too many. Limit your alcohol and focus on fun with your fur baby versus intoxication. Stick to sipping on one drink and be sure you’re not doing so on an empty tummy.
- Don’t give your dog alcohol. Alcohol is a toxic food for dogs, so don’t offer your tail-wagging companion any booze. Instead, look for dog-safe menu options (sometimes featured at dog-friendly bars) or pack a treat from home. You may even want to make your dog a DIY non-alcoholic beer!
- Don’t offer your dog any questionable food items. Bar food is notoriously greasy and salty, which doesn’t sit well with canines. Rather than risk an upset stomach, stick to dog-intended food options (if available) or feed him ahead of time if he has known food allergies or intolerances.
- Only venture out with a well-trained, friendly dog. Bars are noisy and unpredictable, with dog-friendly bars usually requiring multiple mutts to coexist in a confined area. If your dog is reactive, nervous, or dog-selective, bars aren’t the place for him.
