Prepare for your dog-friendly bar visit by doing the following:
- Ask yourself if a bar is the best place for your pooch. Not every dog can handle the ever-changing, sometimes raucous bar atmosphere, and that’s OK! A bar isn’t recommended if your pup is nervous or unsure of strange people or pets. Opt for a solo activity, like brewing non-alcoholic dog beer at home or a backyard nightcap for you and a homemade pupsicle for him.
- Check your pup’s vaccinations. Is your dog’s rabies shot current? How about his distemper and parvo vaccines? Public spaces can be spreading grounds for infectious diseases, leaving your pup at risk. Ask your vet which vaccines your doggo is due for and if there are any recommendations before visiting a public space like a bar.
- Evaluate your pooch’s pest prevention plan. Public places come with a hidden surprise: bugs! Fleas, ticks, and mosquitos may frequent the same outdoor spaces we visit with our canines to catch a cold one and a game, making pest protection a mush in preventing heartworm disease, itching, and more. Ensure your mutt has adequate coverage, like a quality flea treatment or tick preventative.
- Tighten up mutt manners. Your dog should respond to basic commands like “sit” and know the fine art of loose leash walking before a dog-friendly bar visit.
